Rav Ashi says any student who isn't as hard as iron is not a talmid chacham

3 people who asked innapropriately, 2 were answered appropriately and 1 inappropriately
Eliezer - (appropriately) wife for Yitzchak (Rivka)
Shaul - (appropriately) son-in-law (David)
Yiftach - (inappropriately) sacrific (daughter)
abhorrence of child sacrifice

asking for rain and mentioning rain have two separate times and halachot.
Two opinions as to what Rabbi Yehuda holds (from beginning of Pesach or end of Pesach)
We start asking for rain: Tanna Kamma 3rd Cheshvan, Rabban Gamliel 7th Cheshvan
Distinction between Bavel and Eretz Yisrael/ distinction between time of Beis Hamikdash and after Beis Hamikdash
When do we start mentioning rain in chutz la'aretz when there is 2nd day yomtov?

SUMMARY OF THE DAF
Taanis 3
Rabbi Natan nisuch hamayim from extra word nisuch
Nisuch hamayim is all 7 days according to Rabbi Yehoshua Halacha l'Moshe m'Sinai
The Rabbi Yehoshua of the Mishan is Rabbi Yehoshua ben Beteira (before he received smicha he was called by his father's name - afterwards by his own name).
Dew and wind don't need to be mentioned in prayer since they never cease.
G-d guarantees that the Jewish people will never cease just as the wind will never cease.
Rabbi Chanina - summer: said wind/don't repeat; said rain/ repeat. winter: forgot wind/don't repeat; forgot rain/repeat
pre-rain clouds never cease, post-rain clouds cease
regular rain never ceases, irregular rain ceases
rain is good if it doesn't raise dust
sunshine after rain is as good as double rain
Rava says good things about snow
